I am interested in SFA's pre-Southland conference history. What conference were they in and who was in it with them? I took 5 minutes to try and research but wasn't able to find anything I figured someone here knew the answer!

Along this same line, I am actually interested if there is an SFA MBB record book that the general public can access. I have done some looking around on Sport Reference but it's a tiring process. "I was looking for SFA's best statistical shooter, percentage wise. Just for the stat nerds out there.

Look for the ESPN College Basketball Encyclopedia: The Complete History of the Men's Game, (c) 2009.

SFA is featured on page 430 with W-L records and high scorer data for years 1973-73 through 2008-09. Among other things noted:
  • "Best Team", 1970 with five players drafted by NBA teams. That was unfortunately a year before I got there.
  • "Best Player", James Silas 1968-72. I got to see him my freshman fall semester before he lost his eligibility...an issue with study habits we were told.
  • "Best Coach", Marshall Brown, there for all of my years at SFA 1971-75. There are 10 years of Danny Kaspar covered in this article, so they rate Coach Brown higher, but publication date precedes Coach Underwood by a few years. As much as I liked Coach Brown I'd go with Coach Underwood.

I found the book on eBay a few years ago and shelled out $20 for it, just to get their take on SFA MBB.

Dr. McDonald was a great resource for Texas and Nacogdoches history.

Took 9 hours of various history courses from Dr McDonald...and met my future wife in one of them! Been 42 years and seems like yesterday. Great professor and wonderful man.

He was one of my professors back in 1976 I think - maybe 75. Terrific professor and a really good man.
