The Lumberjacks find themselves six points short of first place after two home games last week. Suddenly in fourth place and without Sadadriene Hall for the rest of the season, the Jacks start the effort to right the ship against the Utah Valley Wolverines.
Perfect in WAC play at home, the Wolverines haven't been able to get a W on the road this season. They are led by first year head coach Todd Phillips who only returned 3% of the scoring from last year's dominant team. Led by a trio of guards in scoring and by a proficient 7 footer at the rim, they have played competitively this season. A couple things to note is that they get to the line more than any WAC team, they steal a lot, and they are the worst three point shooting team in the nation.
The Jacks know where they are at. Losing Day Day, losing the first round to every team ahead of them in the standings, losing momentum. This is the week where the season is going to be won or spiral out of control. It's time. Whatever is going to happen, the time is now.
After giving up 65 threes in 9 games, the Jacks' defense has to start above the arc and can't let a terrible shooting team get any flow. The big core is going to be going all night at their 7 footer. Hayman, Jossell, and Cajuste are the leaders of this team for sure. It's time to lead the way.
This is the turn to the second half of the conference slate. Going into it 6-4 is worlds better than 5-5. It's time for this team to become what they can be. Last time UVU embarrassed us by 44 points. It's time to return the favor.
