SFA (12-6, 5-2) vs. Grand Canyon (17-2, 7-1)
WHEN: 1/25 (THU) 6:30P.M.
WHERE: William R. Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
For the third season in a row, the Lopes of Grand Canyon come to Nacogdoches for a January showdown. The previous two seasons, the Jacks have beaten the GCU to either move into first place or to drop the Lopes from first place. Both can happen tonight for the Jacks or third time could be the charm for the Lopes.
GCU is having their most dominant season ever after getting Tyon Grant-Foster to transfer in this season. Combined with a veteran attack of McGlothan, Harrison, Blacksher Jr. and more, there's one top team in the WAC and everyone else. They have been consistently stingy with their defense inside and outside. They are in the top ten in blocks in the nation and in denying rebounds. They get make more free throws per game than almost every other team in the country. They have been ruthless in their offensive efficiency. They are a complete team.
The Jacks have heard it all before. "GCU is a bulldozer that can't be stopped." "They have the best guards." "They're stingy on defense." But, not in our house. The Jacks are ready to man up and play physical all night long. We will foul a lot and send them to the line, but we will make them earn every shot. Grant-Foster is going to be in the meat grinder all night. The real key will be if our offense can find a way to make hay against their interior strength, and if not, will our outside shooters find their touch.
Nana and Beaubrun led the way for the Jacks in the tight win over Seattle last week. They will be front and center tonight. Hayman is going to need offensive help from Cajuste, Hall, and Jossell. This could be a dogfight or a bloodbath, but at the end of the night, we should know something about the real state of the WAC. Is it a one team dog and pony show or is this one of the most competitive mid major leagues? The Jacks have the answer.
