SFA (9-5, 1-0) vs. UT-Arlington (5-9, 0-1)
WHEN: 12/31 (SAT) 1:00P.M.
WHERE: College Park Center (Arlington, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
Kyle Keller has known that there is something special about this squad since the summertime, but the casual onlooker has only been able to see a few sparks here and there. But with a convincing wire to wire win over new top rival ACU, the Jacks showed that WAC conference play is where they intend to shine.
It's not there yet, but with now nine men on the depth chart and Posey returning in the next few weeks, the team is starting to feel their potentiality turning into potency. Ware and Tezeno are adding defensive fire and Armbrester is pushing hard through injury to be more than just minutes relief. The team is coming together.
But, the Mavericks of UT-Arlington are waiting. They know that SFA has huge home games next week against NMSU and GCU. It's a matinee New Year's Eve game against a team that hasn't scored 70 points against a D1 team this year. A quick easy weekend is the trap they are trying to sell.
UTA is not a top WAC team this year. But they can beat top teams. They brutalized San Francisco (in a trap game) before SF beat a ranked team the next game. They don't have a player that averages 10 points a game, but Wilson almost has a double double every game. They are top 5 in offensive rebounds in the country and they limit scoring opportunities, but their offense doesn't click.
Here's their stats for perusal:
The Jacks are going to be playing a team that hasn't learned how to be a team well. It's going to make for a chaotic game especially inside. Our guards have to click in this one. Nigel has been leading the charge but Jossell can't be a one spot shooter. Rebounding maybe the only metric that counts, but free throws are going to be huge.
The Jacks have a spark and can get to three D1 wins in a row for the first time this season. They do not want a let down coming into a huge home week. They will play with fire and energy.
