SFA (3-1) vs. Buffalo (2-1)

Well there will be a clear champion of the Cancun Challenge. The higher seeded bracket of the tournament won all their campus games against the lower seeded side, so SFA, Buffalo, Saint Louis, and Illinois State are all going to Mexico with a 1-0 record. Whoever wins tomorrow's game will go to the ostensible championship against Saint Louis more than likely.
Two D1 games into the young season the Jacks are struggling for their identity. At times, they are an all out defensive force, other times they are a high flying run and gun team, but rarely anything for long. Kensmil is the one exception. He is a beast at the post, and he is the foundation the team is built on.
Guard play is still the big question mark. David and Roti get their numbers every game, but they are streaky. It's not as helpful to the flow of the game when they get 8 points and 2 steals in 2 minutes time and 5 points in the other 38. We need some consistency in our playmaking that we haven't quite seen yet. It's not all on those two shoulders, but they are supposed to be the leaders. Maybe against a really good team they will find their stride.
Buffalo is maybe the best midmajor story of the last decade, and this team is loaded. We're happy to have three returning seniors; Buffalo has 8 senior and graduate players. This is a peak team, and they plan on doing damage this year. They run a very pro style isolation offense, and they have the talent to pull it off. After falling behind by almost 25 to #6 Michigan, they proceeded to outscore the Wolverines for 20 minutes and make it a two possession game late. They can beat any team on any given day.
Jeenathan Williams (6'5" F, Sr.) is a man among boys. He's averaging over 20ppg and he will be the top assignment for Kensmil and co. Backing him up is Maceo Jack (6'5" G, Sr.) who has a very Kevon-esque style of play. If there is one brightside is that though the Bulls have shooters that can hit from anywhere, they haven't been super consistent from outside the arc.
They can and will hit open shots. SFA has to pressure the entry passes and know when to double. If Buffalo finds a weak link, they will exploit it. Our defense will be tested by a team that is not used to turning over the ball, but if we can disrupt their rhythm, they may get rattled as they haven't played a strong defensive team yet.
The winner will get the honor of playing an even better team on Wednesday, but if we ever wanted a real tune up for Kansas, then tomorrow is it. We have the potential to pull the upset, but it will take a lot of clean execution.
