Man…if that's not a "I'm going to do this job til I die" mentality idk what is. Can't imagine he needs money. He was an NFL head coach for almost 10 years(a successful one at that, 4 playoff appearances in 8 seasons), a D1 head coach, a semi pro head coach, a NASCAR driver for 8 years, and now a D2 assistant.

Wow! 82 years old and still coaching college football. If he's physically capable of pulling it off, then good for him. He has to have a ton of knowledge in that head of his.

My Dad is 82 years old and still works as a CPA, in Daingerfield, he was County auditor for Morris County for over 25 years, but now just does his own practice and my mother who is 78 runs the office in town.

Crunching the numbers keeps his mind young he says. (I think he has the fear of retiring and not knowing what to do with himself as he has been an account since the 1960s.)

He plays tennis every Monday in Longview with 50 year olds, after two knee replacements as well and out lived his two younger brothers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. NIL and the transfer portal are destroying the college athletics we've loved for decades. For me, it has always been an escape from the greed and lack of school and team loyalty that has existed in pro sports. Now we have the same things at the college level. What's next? High school athletics?

Earlier this spring, the NCAA rules committee proposed revamped technology rules for the 2024 season that include coach-to-player communications through the helmit of one player on the field. The proposal must be approved by the NCAA's playing rules oversight panel, which is scheduled to discuss football proposals Thursday. That panel typically rubberstamps proposals from the rules committee.

Wonder if SFA will jump on this technology this Fall.

UIW leads all non-FBS schools with 9 players who could possibly receive a call during or after the NFL draft this week. A&M Commerce is 2nd with 6.

For back-pay damages, the NCAA would use its reserves to cover $1.1 billion, and the remaining approximately $1.6 billion would come from withheld revenue distributions, chiefly via the NCAA men's basketball tournament credits. Of that $1.6 billion, nearly 60 percent is expected to come from leagues outside the Power 4 conferences (including the Group of 5), according to people familiar with the settlement proposal.

The 22 smaller, non-FBS conferences (colloquially referred to as the CCA22) were not initially briefed on the settlement talks until earlier this month, multiple administrators said, once the financial structure of payouts had already been formulated.

One Division I commissioner estimated that non-FBS conferences would be on the hook for $2.5 million per year to help cover the NCAA's costs of the settlement. Two sources in different CCA22 leagues said that equates to roughly 25 percent of the annual revenue those schools receive from the NCAA. That level of reduction could lead to cutting sports and athlete resources, despite a lawsuit that was clearly aimed at power-conference schools with the most lucrative media deals.

"The burden that's being pushed to us is not following any sort of logic as it relates to the court order," one non-Power 4 source said.

Tarleton coveted that slot. With Missouri State snagging the 12th spot, expansion may be over for a while. At least till the Mountain West/Pacific 2 determine a path forward. If the MWC/PAC2 come together just as they exist, we may not see much more movement. If the MWC/P2 add a couple of AAC schools all bets are off and Tarleton and SFA, could both be a potential fit for CUSA. I don't think we are ready, but this may be 1 yr to 18 months out.

Anyone with half a brain knows this is not fair in any way. So-called "power conferences" get richer in the long run... again, and non-power conferences get screwed... again.

Is it time for the non-power conferences to break away from the NCAA completely and form their own organization? Sure, it would be a difficult hill to climb, but the screwing of the little guys has to be stopped somehow!

I have a suspicion that's why the P5 is trying to weight this deal the way they are. So that the small conferences are forced to leave.

Rather than the P4 leaving the NCAA and getting tied up in lawsuits forever.

Hadn't thought of that. You could be right.

BTW, what would be the upsides and downsides for the non-power conferences leaving the NCAA? Weigh in on that question, guys and gals.

Ya. It's a matter when, not if, the P4 will leave NCAA FB. When that happens the rest of the college sports infrastructure will have to adapt. Get used to less money

Primarily losing NCAA tourney access.

22 conferences could definitely crown a champion, but you'd probably be playing it on ESPN+.

Challenging times for all, but the very top of the NCAA. The big get bigger, even taking a financial hit.

It's been reported multiple places that 90% of this money is going to P5 athletes(after lawyer fees).

If SFA is paying out 2.95 mil over a decade for supposed wrong doing, it should go to former SFA athletes, not former Longhorn & Aggie athletes while those schools skate by with a smaller payout percentage.
