Stephen F. Austin football took one on the chin last week with the news that starting quarterback Foster Sawyer had suffered an injury during the 4th of July weekend. The crew delves into his replacements and what his absence could mean for a program looking to snap a two year playoff drought. A bit of good news to talk about as well, with SFA basketball welcoming verbal commitments from a couple big 2018 pieces.

DISCLAIMER: Zach Smith and Jake Blumrick are both from Pearland but did not go to high school together. I misspoke.

With year 4 of Conque and company, a QB problem is not a good problem to have. I knew we needed to rebuild after Harper, but I really thought things were looking up this year with the transfers and recruiting. Conque may not be on the hot seat right now, but would he be if we went below .500 again?

I'm cynical. This looks like looming clouds. Surprised that in year 4 we don't have more than one top caliber quarterback.

I think everyone is taking this QB thing a little to hard we had Conque last year and he was an "ok" QB I'm sure the remaining QB's are as good or better then conque was. I mean what if we never got foster sawyer? What would be the discussion then ? which comes back to the DB's that's the real question

If Sawyer had not come to SFA, it would have been another FBS QB.

To echo was SFAXE93 said, I think the staff was pretty certain a transfer was coming one way or another. JUCO was a possibility, too. Either way, 1) Zach Conque was a lot better than most people think and 2) I wouldn't put anyone on this roster at his level except maybe Sawyer and Smith in a year or two.

Yep, we definitely needed a transfer QB while these other guys mature. People give Conque too much crap, I'd take him again this year if we could. Hopefully Foster can return and greatly boost the QB position.

Not saying foster isn't good but his pass completion ratio is %45 he completes less then half of all his passes from his TCU stats I mean is that good or bad ?

Beggers can't be choosers.

lol all kidding aside Sawyer has the physical attributes and what the coaches see as a great potential of being successful in their offensive scheme.

Time will tell.

I'd imagine most of his TCU stats where in garbage time. His measurables are good and TCU is a higher level of competition than anyone he'll play in FCS.

He doesn't really have a good sample from TCU though. Garbage time doesn't really count, and when he did get playing time when it mattered from what I saw he performed.
Many TCU fans wanted him to be the starter.

Well hopefully the stacked position of WR will help out whoever the QB will be lots of targets

We have a surprisingly tall receiver corps. Should help create mismatches all over the field.

I'm telling you, just throw it up in the air.

Interesting post. Thanks for sharing, 93.

Key points I heard: 1) Foster Sawyer probably is a more accurate QB than Kenny Hill, 2) Sawyer had "transformed his body into a more athletic QB", according to TCU Coach Patterson.

Now, if we can just get him onto the field for us.......

After looking at our receiving corps again, maybe we shouldn't worry about whoever we play as much. This offense should be able to b at the very least decent without Foster. And with him, it should be dangerous.

For the record, Sam has 1 DB/CB who's as tall as the shortest WR on that list. If we can't win matchups for recievers, we don't deserve to win.

If you've seen around some shsu fan forums, they're really worried about their defense. Apparently outside of PJ Hall, the defense is full of undersized freshmen and a new defensive coordinator.
We might have a shootout in our hands in Houston.

Nice. He's a keeper. (That little push in the back on the TD vs. Army didn't hurt either...)

That's kinda what I was getting at on the QB situation
