It's mighty impressive to see how SFA has improved our Track and Field program. We wallowed in relative obscurity for so long, and suddenly* we have TWO national pole vault champions and a silver medal in the Men's 4x400. Takes a great deal of dedication, hard work, and vision to make this happen. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

A silver medal in the 4x400 - the premier event of the entire championship! That is heady for sure.

*By suddenly, I mean in the last few years.

If by the last few years, you mean since 2000 when Phil Olson became coach, I agree. His teams won roughly 30% of the available SLC championships between men and women XC, indoor and outdoor T&F.

Curious if anyone knows the ballpark price on an indoor track facility.

I know that's way down the line if ever but what do those things run.

A&M spent $38 million about twelve years ago. Arkansas spent $8 million 21 years ago.

I was referring to the national stage. I know we have had a strong track and field program for a long time. Wish I could have gone to the NCAAs!

Nissi cleared her first height of 5' 9 3/4" but couldn't clear higher. Tied for 17th out of 25 athletes. Not enough to advance, but very impressive.

Equaled her season best outdoor. It was her indoor school record that qualified her for the trials. Terrific year for the sophomore.

Relative to the Olympic trials:

"Reigning Olympic champion Ryan Crouser broke the 31-year-old mark Friday at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon, with a fourth attempt of 23.37 meters (76-8.25 inches). Barnes, the 1996 Olympic champion, set the previous all-time best of 23.12m (75-10.25) on May 20, 1990, at a meet in Westwood, California."

Crosser went to UT. Barnes went to A&M, and is under a lifetime ban for steroid use. It's a positive for the sport that a long time, and questionable, record has been broken.

Javelin qualifying for Cord Neal starts in about 7 minutes. Looks like he's going to have to throw about 70m to advance to finals.

Cord sitting in 18th after one. About 4m short of the 12th place.

Cord in 19th after 2. Last throw needs about 3.5m to advance.

Cord couldn't improve on his first throw. Will not advance.

Congrats to him for making it to the Olympic trials!

Ellis cleared his first height easy.

Cleared second height (5.5m) easy. No misses through two. Better than half the field so far.

Third jump still clean. (5.6m) Definitely in the top of the field so far.

Branson clears 5.7m on his first height easy on first attempt. His personal best is 5.72. That's getting broken today.

5.7m was what he won his NCAA championship with. The competition here is much higher.

I believe three make the team.

How do these passes work?
nacluth
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You can elect to pass a bar height but if you don't clear then your lower height is your score. You can pass after you clear a height, and take all your attempts with you, if you pass in the middle of a run, you carry the misses with you to the next height.
TallTexan

Craziness.
