Texan it will be for Carthel.. He will have his own S&C Coach..
Ideas on what other non-coach roles they will have? The A&M-Commerce staff was loaded with QC and analyst types.

After talking with papa Carthel he was a volunteer coach along with a couple others... They will probally be GA heavy which doesn't cost very much.. They will get some good GA because this staff knows how to win and has already won.. other younger coaches are going to want to align themselves with winners...

We should build a retired coaches version of Saban's analyst team.

Just call HS football legends around Texas and let them know that they can be a volunteer analyst and we'll give them a desk and free coffee if they want to hang out in Nac.

Lynn Graves?
He would love to do it I am sure but has been out of the game for a good while... I could only imagine the intensity coach Graves and coach Carthel would have...

I like the staff a lot. Can they duplicate the results at the higher level of competition? When was the last time SFA had a football coach leave for a better job?

Longview native at that...LOVE this hire

Excellent wide out at Longview. Very good results at OU. Bust in two years as a pro with Washington due, probably, to knee issues. Pro career ended August, 2011. I cannot find what he did from then until his stint at Commerce.

2016 - A&M - Commerce - Offensive Quality Control/Wide Receivers
2017 - UH - GA
2018 - UH - Offensive Analyst

Days short of being 32. This will be his first true coaching job. East Texas guy with very good playing results. Beyond that, what has you guys excited about this hire? Does he have the drive and personality for recruiting? Can he teach? I trust Carthel and Storm. Just curious.

While there are some question marks due to inexperience, there is a lot to like. He knows east Texas, so he should be a huge help with recruiting the area. He was on staff under Kendall Briles, and say what you want about his morals and ethics, the dude can coach an offense. The opportunity to learn under Briles is a huge boost to his career. Plus his experience as a player will be valuable to the guys on roster (Looking at you, Tamrick Pace). If he can prove he can coach up guys, that experience and wealth of knowledge from his playing career will be so big for these guys going forward.

Ditto! Being able to say to a potential recruit that "I was a receiver in the NFL and also was on the coaching staff at UH that produced one of the most explosive offenses in the FBS in 2018" is sure to get some kids' attention.

With him being with Carthel and Power for a year, I have confidence in their decision. I saw many situations in my career in manufacturing when the best operator or craftsman was completely out of his/her element as a supervisor. There are plenty of examples in sports of great players making poor coaches. And the opposite is on, of course.

Kelley was a stud at Longview. I got to see him when they played Lufkin. 2003 was the second year of the awful district realignment when the UIL did not know what to do with Lufkin, Longview, John Tyler, and Tyler Lee. So, they put them in a four team district where they played a home and home double round robin in district. BEast Texas indeed.

I don't disagree with you. I actually tend to think that the better the player, the worse the coach they make. You just can't teach NFL level physical gifts.

But what I like about this hire is the coaching staff he's working under. We're getting a former NFL level player(two if you count the OLine coach) who have the opportunity to plug into a national championship staff. So we get an extra air of credibility with an NFL WR, paired with a coaching staff he can learn from.

Am I wrong or is that a few coaches too many? Maybe a few grad assistants?

I like the idea of a kicking/punting coach. So often, bad kicks/punts are highly costly. And a good kicking game can be a weapon for a team. I like it.
