Great stuff as always. Biggest question for me this off season is if our 2017 starting QB is already on the roster or someone signing this spring.

Our LB core looks young. We gonna be ok there?

Also, Marlon Walls is a senior? Dang, seems like we just signed that guy.

LB: Michael McCain 6-2; 200 Silsbee, Texas (Silsbee)

LB: Terrence Potts 6-2; 215 (Jr.) JUCO from TVCC

The LB from Pittsburgh will be one to watch, he is a gamer.

Looking at the schedule... we should be favored in 3 of the first 4 games. Maybe we start solid and have a winning season.

And I won't go so far as to add that we can also beat SMU, but the level of competition in that first game will be lower than in the last couple of years. We could hang with them for a while.

For what its worth, I will be shocked if SMU isn't much, much better this next year than they've been the last few. Chad Morris was a hell of a hire for them.

OK, let's spice up this slow time of the year... Here's my take on how the 2017 season will play out. Add your predictions...

SMU (A) - L (but closer than many expect)
Southern Utah (H) - W (Thunderbirds will get a good butt-whoopin' by the Oregon Ducks before coming to Nac)
UIW - (H) - W (easy peasy lemon squeezy)
ACU (A) - W (but close, in ACU's new diggs)
McNeese (H) - W (home cookin' will make for a bit of an upset here)
SHSU (N) - L (but closer than in recent BTPW's)
UCA (A) - L (Conway's ugly purple turf will again make for tough place to get a W)
HBU (H) - W (payback time for that embarrassment in Houston last year)
Lamar (A) - W (should be a down year for the Cards)
Nicholls (H) - W (easy peasy lemon squeezy)
NSU (A) - W (the Chief stays where he belongs)

Nicholls wasn't so easy last year.

SUU is not a Big Sky power and they have a young head coach in his second year but they do play good defense. It should be a Lumberjack win but I'm struggling to remember when SFA beat a any Big Sky team.

Edit: I stand corrected. In 2013 SFA lost to Weber State 50 - 40 but beat Montana State a few weeks later 52 - 38 and beat Weber 35 - 20 in 2014 and lost to those other Lumberjacks 34 - 28 in 2015.

So 8-4 and no playoffs unless McNeese State, Southern Utah, or maybe even Nicholls are ranked.

8-3... That's the way I see it playing out. But after last year that would still be a step in the right direction. I'm expecting really big things in the 2018 season.

What's your take, 93?
SFAXE93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry I miss read that as there was 3 losses and not 4...

I don't know, I was pretty hyped about last season, especially after the McNeese State victory, but then the wheels seemed to come off...again. The sammy game was really disappointing and it appears I'm afraid that they are the new Texas State (as in we could never beat them no matter what, 2009 and 2010 seasons for example)

The coaching staff has done an amazing job of bringing in the pieces, but can they put it together?

We still have plenty of players sidelined with injuries from last season.

We seem to have the injury bug story every time and because of that I'm holding my enthusiasm.

But no matter what I'll be watching every game.

SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The injury bug has been the thing keeping this team from greatness the past two seasons.
The biggest thing will be if we can keep a healthy O-Line and if our defense can hold strong.
I have confidence Foster Sawyer will be everything we hope he can be, and the receiving corps and running backs will be very solid.
I think it'll be just like last year. Either we'll have a really good season, or injuries will derail us again.
SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?

SMU (A) - L (but very close. Like I would say we take SMU to the wire on this one. )
Southern Utah (H) - W (SUU will come in swinging, but I think we will have way too much offensive firepower for them to handle. I see us scoring almost 50 on them)
UIW - (H) - W (Hodor)
ACU (A) - W (This game will either be very close or a blowout. ACU also has the benefit of coming into the game with a new coach and phenomenal FCS stadium)
McNeese (H) - W (A huge win in front of what should be a huge crowd. Possibly our Black out game)
SHSU (N) - W (4 out of the last 6 have been decided by less than 10 points. I think this is the year our size on offense will really benefit us. Wishfully say it's a win, but it will for sure be a shootout)
UCA (A) - W (Conque finally gets his revenge)
HBU (H) - W (This should be a laughably one sided blowout in front of what should still be a massive crowd)
Lamar (A) - L (I do think we're going to be really good, but we will have that head scratcher. Sets up a good revenge game at home in 2018)
Nicholls (H) - W (uncomfortably close game by a surprisingly good Nicholls team. )
NSU (A) - W (A healthy SFA team in 2017 should have way too much offensive firepower to make this game close)
Playoffs:
NDSU (A) - (with SFA's luck in playoff draws....)

Okay so 10-2 with an opening round playoff appearance is EXTREMELY wishful thinking. But talentwise I think we're there. We have a very good a sizeable receiving corps. We have a QB who should be able to match anyone in the FCS when it comes to passing. And defensively we look to be improving. I think playoffs should be the ultimate goal in 2017, with a potential conference title in 2018.

I was very disappointed to see this.
This should be a prime time SLC game. One of the largest attended FCS games of the season.
Usually very competitive game. Usually I said.
I just don't see the reason to move it up.

No reason a receiver corp with that many big guys shouldn't run all over the southland with good QB and Oline play.

Agreed 100%. It comes down to the o-line and the defensive backfield. If those two pieces come together it we will be a fun year.

SMU- L
Southern Utah- W- gonna be a tough game
UIW- W, why the hell they are in the SLC IDK
ACU- W, we better get them now because they are gonna be good real quick with the new stadium and great coach.
McNeese- L, they don't struggle 2 yrs in a row
shsu- L
UCA- L, Bears are gonna be good
HBU- W, another team I'm not sure why they are in the SLC
Lamar- W, usually have a good run game but Jacks should out score them
Nicholls- W, gonna be a close one
NSU- W, good way to end it!

7-4, Hopefully some good breaks against McNeese and get to 8-3 and an AT LARGE BID!
